Publication of The Writer's Fugue as a book was the culmination of a literary and creative writing project that began, formally, in the late 1990s. The book developed from my research into fugue structures in literary narratives which began as my novel that I began before I took my Master's in Writing, and which I have continued to work on and recently published in my Australian Fugue project, in two editions- as Missing, and as The Antipode Room.
My research developed and deepened when I pursued it as a Ph.D. in literature and creative writing. I created several works for this including a multimedia poem, and another novel, but the examined work was my thesis on what I termed 'the writers fugue' how several prominent authors in modernity have used musical fugue form in their literary works, in effect I found to transform trauma from their own life experiences.
I continued to work on and update my research after the award of my Ph.D. from the University of Technology in 2007. (More details to follow).
